Gospel – John 3:13-17

Jesus said to Nicodemus:

“No one has gone up to heaven

except the one who has come down from heaven, light

the Son of Man.

And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,

so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,

so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,

but that the world might be saved through him.

Think of how much you love your children. Think of how you would never want to give them up, let them go. Now try to imagine how much more God loves his own son, Jesus. The intensity and passion of God’s love is more than our minds can comprehend. Kind of like the impossibility of asking a baby to do calculus, there is no human way we can understand the depth of God’s love for Jesus. Yet, God gave him up. God let him go. God loves us so much that He sacrificed the One he loves so much so that the gates of Heaven may be opened and we may join with Him for all Eternity.

Some bad days, we may be blind to His love, to His presence in our lives. But His love remains – deep and rich and pure. Knowing us completely and loving us in our entirety. And even if there was only one of us on earth that needed saving, He still would have sacrificed His son in His great love for us!
