Gospel – John 3:16-18

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Think of how much you love your children, how precious they are to you.  Now magnify that outside of our human, mortal limitations to the love of our immortal, all powerful, all merciful and infinitely loving God.  Think of how much He must love his own Son.  In his omniscient nature, He knew that when He sent his son into the world, Christ would suffer in his human form.  He would suffer pain and loss, human frailty, sin, and betrayal.  Then He knew that Christ would go through excrutiating suffering and pain and ultimately death.  But He still sent his son into the world for love of all of us.  His love was so great, He was willing to sacrifice Jesus for us.  And if there had only been one person in the world to be sacrificed for, He still would have sent his son into the world – just for you!
