St. Mark the Evangelist

St. Mark the EvangelistFeast Day – April 25

Patron Saint of attorneys and prisoners

St. Mark was one of the first generation Christians, converted to the faith by St. Peter himself. He wrote his gospel in Italy around the year 49 AD, likely at the request of the Roman Christians. St. Mark was sent to Alexandria in Egypt, at that time the second city of the world. St. Peter appointed him the bishop of Alexandria so that he could evangelize Egypt. He also wrote the Acts of the Apostles and preached to pagans, destroying temples and idols.

Mark faced many persecutions as he passed through Egypt and had to eventually flee to Rome. When he returned to Alexandria, he was captured and drug over the ground for two days, after which time, he died.
