New Year Resolutions

Happy New Year!  Have you made your New Year’s resolutions?  If you are anything like me, any resolutions made are often broken before the end of January, if not much sooner!  Breaking a resolution one day discourages me so much that I am even less successful the following days.  Before long, I am not trying at all and I feel like I am a failure wasting my time even attempting to improve myself.

Now on the other hand, if I try to take smaller bites, working on a day-by-day basis, I find I have more success.  For example, I would like to have a stronger prayer life.  So that becomes my goal for the day.  I try to keep prayer at the center of my day – praying at the beginning of the day, talking to God on my morning drive, remembering to pray before my lunch at work, asking the Holy Spirit to guide me throughout my day, and then finishing the day before bed on my knees.

On another day, I may need to work on forgiveness and mercy or filling my day with hope.  As long as I continue to improve myself in some small way every day, I can be more successful.

So, instead of making New Year resolutions, let’s try New Day resolutions each day.

Happy New Day!
