New Year’s Day’s Resolutions

Have you made your New Year’s Resolutions?  Have you broken any of them yet?  My list is probably typical of a busy Catholic mom.  It goes something like:

  1. Pray more.
  2. Eat better.resolutions
  3. Exercise regularly.
  4. Pray the rosary daily.
  5. Attend mass more than once a week.
  6. Be more patient with my children.
  7. Have more date time with my husband.
  8. Spend more fun time with my kids.
  9. Don’t sign up for anything new.
  10. Go to Adoration and Reconciliation more frequently. 

    But as is probably typical as well, I rarely make it to the second week of January without having broken one of my resolutions.  And breaking one resolution tends to make me want to scrap the whole list.  Ridiculous, I know, but I can get discouraged with my failures in faith and family.


    So my only resolution this year is not to make any official yearly resolutions.  I need to make resolutions, and little promises to myself and to God on a daily basis.  I need to refresh and reset myself each morning ready for domestic and spiritual challenges with the knowledge that God won’t let me down.  So now my daily resolutions look more like this.


  1. Say my morning and bedtime prayers.
  2. Make two good healthy choices.
  3. Be moving more than sedentary (unless snuggling my kids).
  4. Pray the rosary.
  5. Talk to God throughout the day.
  6. Take a deep breath before getting frustrated with my kids.
  7. Kiss my husband!
  8. Tickle my kids to hear their laughter.
  9. Go to bed 10 minutes earlier.
  10. Gaze upon the crucifix for a second more than just a glance to think about how much God loves me!
