Lent for our Family

Lent4This Lent, I have posted articles on our personal Lenten journeys and helping our children through Lent.  So how can we enrich this Lenten journey for our family?

Here is what we are going to do as a family.  What are you going to do?

  1.  Abstain from meat on Fridays.  This isn’t hard for us – we like having fish on Fridays.  It is part of our routine.  So making sure we stick to it during Lent is something the whole family can participate in.
  2. Praying after mass.  Sometimes, we, like the rest of the congregation, get distracted near the end of the processional hymn as Father is walking out of the church.  Putting on coats, grabbing mass books, we forget about where we are.  So I’d like to have our family kneel down after mass to pray a quick prayer after the last hymn.  We are going to start praying O Sacrament Most Holy.            O Sacrament Most HolyO Sacrament Divine

    All praise and all thanksgiving

    Be every moment thine.

  3. Attending confession together.  We are going to figure out when our penance service is and all go together.  Even the little one who cannot yet partake in the sacrament, she likes to watch everyone washing their souls clean!
  4. Praying a family rosary.  Sometimes, this can be like pulling teeth, but praying the rosary together is such a beautiful expression of faith and unity that can bring us together as a family.
  5. Reading a devotional as a family.  Reaching into the scriptures for inspiration in our family faith life can keep us all on track.
