Finding Easter Eggs

Easter eggsI hope that you all had a blessed Easter Sunday!  I pray that your Easter mass was beautiful and moving and that your children enjoyed their Easter baskets and finding all of their Easter eggs.  If your children are like mine, they rejoiced in rehiding the eggs after they had all been found so they could rediscover them again and again!  My kids took turns hiding and finding the eggs both outside and inside making the discovery of the hidden eggs joyful all over again.

And now we are into the joyous Easter season.  Now if you have been in the stores this week, you likely noticed the Easter items and candy on clearance, as we commercially move on to graduations and Memorial Day.  But the Easter joy is far from over!  For the next 50 days, we are blessed as our Church continues to celebrate Easter.  We celebrate Christ’s resurrection through his Ascension into Heaven and ending the Easter season on the feast of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came down upon all of Christ’s disciples!

Perhaps we should follow our children’s examples of joyful rediscovery.  We can spend all of the Easter season finding little ways to rediscover our Easter joy.  We can admire the creation of God in the daffodils and tulips that are blooming.  We can take pleasure in the eyes of a child finding an especially well-hidden Easter egg days after that Sunday morning.  We can spend time in prayer, asking God to fill our hearts with that Easter joy.  We can turn our face to the sun and thank him as we number off our blessings.  We can know that even in our trials and tribulations, Christ suffered even more so that we may live eternally and take comfort in uniting our suffering to His.  And we can rediscover his love, like an egg hidden in the grass, in little ways where we feel like Christ is whispering  “I love you” just to us.
